Free Generic Medicine Distribution

The Government of Odisha is committed to providing free essential medicines to all patients through the NIRAMAYA Scheme. At District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Balasore, all eligible Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient (IPD) patients are provided with essential medicines free of cost through the Drug Dispensing Counters.

Objectives

• To ensure universal access to essential medicines.

• To reduce out-of-pocket expenditure on healthcare.

• To promote the use of quality-assured generic medicines.

• To improve treatment compliance and patient outcomes.

Services Available

• Free distribution of essential medicines to all OPD and IPD patients.

• Medicines are dispensed in their Generic Names as per the Essential Drug List (EDL).

• Medicines are supplied only against a valid prescription issued by the authorized Medical Officer of DHH Balasore.

• Medicines are dispensed by qualified pharmacists through the designated Drug Dispensing Counters.

• Quality-assured medicines procured through the Government of Odisha are provided to patients, subject to availability.

Patient Guidelines

1. Obtain a valid prescription from the treating Medical Officer.

2. Present the prescription at the Drug Dispensing Counter.

3. Collect the prescribed medicines free of cost.

4. Follow the dosage and instructions explained by the Pharmacist.

5. Do not share medicines with others or discontinue treatment without medical advice.

6. In case any prescribed medicine is unavailable, kindly contact the Pharmacist for appropriate guidance.

✔ Please verify the medicine name, quantity, dosage and expiry date before leaving the counter.
